Insurers Issue Tips to Avoid Burst Pipes
In light of the recent severe weather, and Met Eireann forecasts of night-time temperatures dropping as low as -5ºC this weekend, the Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) has advised householders on steps they should take to minimise the risk of damage from pipe bursts.

IIF Highlights Impact of Downturn on Insurance Sector
The newly elected President of the Irish Insurance Federation (IIF), Mr Brian Forrester today spoke about how the recession has impacted on the insurance sector and his hopes for strong leadership from Government and the Financial Regulator in reforming the financial services sector. Speaking at the AGM and Annual Lunch of the IIF Mr Forrester also advised that pension reforms should not be delayed, and addressed the issues surrounding rising motor and house insurance premiums.

IIF AGM & Annual Lunch
Speaking at the Annual Lunch of the IIF held after the AGM, Mr. Murphy highlighted the dramatic fall in motor and commercial insurance rates, with motor insurance rates down 50% in 4 years in real terms. The IIF’s Annual Report, published today, points out that car insurance is now effectively cheaper than at any time in the past 25 years. However, margins in the industry have been pared to the bone and claims inflation remains high, with Irish injury damages still among the highest in Europe.
